ok im adding a shine effect to my signature.

but when i add the mask and unlink it the only thing that moves is the lettering is copies in the abckground int he shape of the shine i put

in the layer mask you have to click the left side before you move them

You're signature is over the limit of 450x150 pixels, I suggest resizing it while you're at it.
