ok so ive read the tutorial and stuff but i just cant figure out how to change the opacity on the different frames

could anyone help me out with this

im using the trial version of cs4 extended

so, open the animation window. There should be one frame. Duplicate this. Select the duplicate (2nd frame) and hide the text layer. Then hit the "tween" button.
