Nice Professional looking text

MAC FRIENDLY!
Explained clearly!

Step 1. Ok, for this tutorial begin by opening Photoshop, self explanatory i know.

Windows: Ctrl+N, open a new document, make the dimensions 400x200 (width x height), once done just click Ok
Mac: Cmd/Apple+N, the rest applies

Step 2. In the next step of the tutorial, we make the background colour black.

Windows/Mac: Press G on the keyboard, or select the Paintbucket tool in the tools panel, press X then D on your keyboard to
reset the foreground and background colours to black/white again. Over the canvas with the tool, click anywhere.

You should get the following result.

Step 3. We begin this step by getting out Type tool, and typing our name or slogan, or whatever.

Windows/Mac: Press T on the keyboard or use the toolbar, T brings up an 'I' shape, with wide ends, this is our text tool.
Click in the middle of the canvas and type out what you want, i chose the website name for the sake of this tutorial.
The font i used is Cambria, it gives a professional feel, nice and sleek. Once typed in the tool menu click the Move Tool (V)

*For more information on how to get the cambria font scroll to the bottom of the tutorial.

Your result should be similar to mine.

Step 4. Now we begin colouring the text, to make it look better but different. Like mine is green and white

Windows/Mac: With the text tool selected (T) click on the text you have just created, decide which parts you would like the colour
and simple the way to do it, is to highlight the parts you want to colour, go to change the colour, which is located next to the
3 text aligns, and choose the colour you want. Don't use too many colours or it'll ruin it.

Your result will be similar to this.

Step 5. Now we style our text, give it some effects to look better.

Windows/Mac: To begin right click on your text layer in the layers panel, and go to blending options, it'll bring open a new window.
Check the following: Drop Shadow, Inner Glow, and Gradient. We will change the settings individually.

1. Drop Shadow: Set your settings similar or different to mine:

2. Inner Glow, again similar or different:

3. Keep the gradient to a white to grey/black setting for better results:

And there you have it, your nice professional looking text!

*Information on the Cambria font!
For the regular text I've actually used Cambria which is a Vista font. If you, yourself don't have the Vistafonts, you
can get them freely & legally, just follow http://labnol.com/2007/03/download-windows-vista-fonts-legally.html. There's a couple neat fonts, I quite like Calibri as well.

I suppose it doesn't work well with dark colors. I'm not really digging the white border due to the inner glow.
You also told us to use a black canvas, whereas you used a dark grey, which was able to display the drop shadow. smile.gif
