alright just starting out here with this graphic design stuff

atm im using GIMP

i need to know:




how do i take part of one image and add it to another, an example being:
how do i remove just a person from a picture and add him to a new background? is there some sort of outline tool that automatically traces around the person for me and then crop it or do i have to do it freehand?


also after i crop a picture, am i supposed to copy+paste it to the new background?

The tool you are talking about is called the Paths Tool. You have to use it manually, always zoom in to cut renders smoothly.

There are some good video tutorials on rendering on youtube.
