If you want the fading to be consistent you'll either want to use opacity maps or feathering. If you're just trying to do a quick shabby job then use the eraser tool with a basic faded edge brush, make sure its a large size and you have the airbrush tool clicked. Once you have those settings make sure you don't click right on the edge but just move up and down a bit away from the edge. If you want to get technical then turn the opacity down to about 15 to 25 percent and go in and remove whatever pieces of the image need to be gone.
