So I'm trying to do the drop shadow effect, example here:

I used the bucket tool on the background and then pasted the ava, added the drop shadow effect. The colour I used was the defaul jsp blue colour.(blends when on ava).
But if the profile isn't set to default blue, the colour doesn't blend. I've seen a lot of sigs/avas that makes the colour blend in more than 1 colour. How does that work?

Here is an example of one blending in: http://forums.d2jsp.org/user.php?i=313048

The space between the sig and the banner is blended in. Not just the default blue of jsp, but everything else. If I did it, then the default blue of jsp would be between them, which looks messed when looking in the profile etc.

So now, I'm needing to make the white part blend. How do I save it for web and devices?
