Use the sharpen/blur tool, sharpen the things in front and blur the things behind a bit
Also adding effects over the focal can help as well

over the focal? havent tried that happy.gif

you got any other nice tips ^^ ?

I was at a course where I tried ps for the first time - the tutor kept on saying that drop shadow and brushes were nice to add depth. somehow I find that it could be much better with a little more effort xD

Well kinda ovr the focal; for example if you have a person as the focal, with their head and shoulders in the picture, then you could add a c4d or something over the shoulders -- not the face, usually smile.gif.
And drop shadow is cheesy ;/
