Well, you have a few options.
Say you have a text layer in Photoshop. Right click the layer, go to blending options, and then select "Bevel and Emboss". Edit your settings to your liking.
Another way is in Illustrator, which is a bit more complex, but it creates really nice 3d text. I don't have Illy open right now, so I can't tell you exactly how to do it, but let me know if you want to try it.
