Depends on your photoshop, but in adobe photoshop cs3 you can use the image menu.

i have cs2

I would suggest adding a B&W gradiant map to it. To do this, in the layer window, click the sign that looks like a ying yang. It'll come up, and then click gradiant map. Change colors to black and white ( it should be a premade map, so you can just click that and not do it manually ). You MAY have to click reverse.

i always make a channel mixer layer, select monochrome at the bottem, and then you have alot of freedon to play around with the different tones and whatnot.
theres a million ways to make grayscale an image, but imo this has proven to be the best and most lenient

go to image , adjustments and click desaturate or use a black and white gradient map. *shortcut for desaturate is SHIFT+CTRL+U*
