Make a new layer with a shape/splatter/whatever on it, then make that layer invisible. Make a new layer on top of that, then Image > Apply Image icon_pointr.gif ctrl + alt + g the top layer icon_pointr.gif Make bottom layer visible again icon_pointr.gif Move top layer around

right click the layer -> create clipping mask

if youre using trial it wont work but if you arent go to layer > layermask>reveal all
