After you make the duplicate, on your layers window, there should be 2 layers (Background and Background Copy).

Choose the background copy and double click it.

It should bring up a new window labeled 'Layer Style'.

There's a drop-down menu at the top labeled 'Blend Mode'.

Drop it down and find 'Screen'.
