Tutorial is nice... but its very sketchy.
A new user would never understand how to make scan lines/pattern overlays or how to turn a brush into a clipping mask.
HoweverfFor those who know photoshop pretty well or inside and out this is a decent tutorial.

This is a semi-advanced tutorial, I'd say. It has some terms and techniques that some less advanced people might not know. Definitely not for beginners.

Thanks though smile.gif.

that's my (terrible) outcome after the first few steps. pretty sure i'm doing something wrong. i have it on clipping masks and all that jazz, so it's not that.

also, at the beginning it's pretty confusing. you say to duplicate it twice, but then you say "now select the third third duplicate layer, and smudge it again." I have absolutely no idea what you mean by that. I just assumed that i should (assuming i just smudged the 2nd layer), smudge the first layer out of 3, leaving the original render layer (the 3rd) on top. Also, it says "smudge it again". was i supposed to have already smudged this layer? zZz

Heh yeah I think you are doing something wrong tongue.gif.
Do you have the gradient maps set on soft light?
Also what I mean by smudge the third duplicate layer, is that you've duplicated the first layer twice so you have three and so you smudge the third one which is a duplicate tongue.gif.

When you're smudging, don't smudge it out so much. The smudge is supposed to be subtle.

thx for clearing that up. no, all of the layers were set on normal, as i thought that's what you said, i must have missed the "set to soft light" part zZz.

Well my computer isn't loading large images atm, so I can't check, but I don't think it actually said that in there tongue.gif I thought it was generally understood to have gradient maps on other blending modes though which is probably why I left it out at the time ;P.

yeah. that's what i thought too. i was like "leave this shit on normal? oh well, it doesn't say not to" and then yeah, i had to restart tho cuz i realized i actually did fuck it up and idk what i did. but, i'm trying it again, and it's turning out better i think smile.gif
