Very good try imo :o

Especially for a "total noob" lol xD

Make sure you work on your blending, and I definitely prefer v1 ;P

thx for nice comment ;)

glad you liked it. It's only that good because ur tutorial is so detailed and easy to follow.

i totally agree on the blending part, it seems to be the problem with most of the sigs that i do. no matter how hard i try it still looks like the render is thrown on top of the background.

Also i find it extremely difficult to make nice looking shapes with pen tool, so on this sig i just used a c4d with a clipping mask of the bg pattern.

Some tips on both issues would be greatly appreciated ^^

thx again for a nice tut, and hope u'll do many more

Np, I say what I mean :)

Haha thank you xD

All I do is take a soft brush at around 17px (depending on the size of the render) and at 20% op I brush around the edges, moreso on parts that would be more in the background, like hair behind your render and such. It takes a bit of practice to get blending right.

Thats totally fine, tbh I still have a lot of issues with pentool myself xD You could check out Tzl's pentool tut: http://forums.d2jsp.org/topic.php?t=38436283&f=105

Yw, and I hope so too, theyre a pain :P

thanx alot for the advice ;)

i have 1 question though - what colour would you use on the soft brush? just white or a colour that's matching the sig?

Np :)

Generally when I do that I use white, sometimes Ive used a color that goes along with the sig. It just depends on the sig. Once you get better with that you can move onto using light textures to get your light source, I always choose a color that goes with the tag for those. These are what I mean:
