how did you manage to make it look unbeliebably low quality

i just started makin' signatures about a month an a half ago. so this is actually some of my very first starter sigs. <.<
the third one obviously was a failure to start with.

they are really bad and low quality. IMO if you have been using ps for 1,5 month you should manage something better. Try basics tutorials. Do not use any renders just try to experiment with filters.

I've been using Gimp. a cheep copy off of ps i think?

Yes, you can work with renders a little bit, but for the most part just experiment with different layer modes, filters, and the tools like smudge dodge burn. Also mess around with brush shape dynamics and scattering. Once you feel pretty comfortable with some basic techniques and have a good feel for where everything is, then you can start trying some tuts and making sigs.
