This is a semi-advanced tutorial, I'd say. It has some terms and techniques that some less advanced people might not know. Definitely not for beginners.

Ah, one of the reasons it's a semi-advanced, it has some techniques that the less advanced people don't know .
Basically, scan lines are just a pattern - new document, draw a diagonal line with the pencil, edit > define pattern, and then fill with it in the sig .
