Get punch bag, wraps and gloves

If you have a mate to train with, get pair of pads, but how to hold pads requires learning too

Most gyms do free trials.
Some near me do 7-12 day free trial to see if its a good fit.
And sometimes you can workout a deal with the owners.

Go in a boxing gym thats the best advise you can get.
learning alone at home from youtube will just remove slowly your interest..

If you don't know the very basics of striking you can do something that will demonstrate where power is really generated from.

Stand up with arms and hands loose at your sides.
Plant your feet firmly.
Now engage your hips in a twisting motion. Back and forth.
Let your arms "fly" upwards and out like helicopter propellers.
The faster you twist the faster your arms travel outward right?
To clarify don't spin 360 in a circle, but twist back and forth.

The most common mistake a person makes is "throwing" their punches.

You're more like accurately "whipping" your fist at an opponent.
So its less in the muscles used to extend the arm and more in the wind up/release.

Core workout is a must for any combat sports. So just as important as hitting the bag, shadow boxing, sparring or anything else is keeping your core strong.

Developing strong core allows for damage absorption but most importantly to be able to connect that kinetic chain aforementioned.
