If you want very fast kicks, is it better to have thicker more muscular legs, or skinnier more toned legs? Which gives more speed? Naturally i'd assume skinnier would be faster, but i'm not entirely sure.
Thanks guys.

Tbh the technique is the most important. Yes being skinny will make it easier to move your legs but having more weight and packing more power is better. If you cant do damage when you hit someone, its meaningless

The speed is mostly about timing and technique,. Personally from my point of view as someone who has trained kick boxing while being short and stocky is that flexibility/ hip positioning are major contributors to your ability use that technique.

A mix of muscle is a must, building that muscle in front of your shin is hard work and painful.

I actually stopped training kick boxing when i was 18 due to shin splints from that and skateboarding.

I spent a whole year and half trying to heal and rebuild that muscle using specific excercises like toe lifts, low weight squats and swimming.

Pat barry and Melvin manhoef are great examples of short stocky kickers who have amazing techniques along with their flexibility they can produce devastating high/ low blows.

technic, weight transfer and speed.
This goes the same with punches. Have people with KO power and others they don't have. natural skill is a big factor
