if that 30 year old trains for as long as thompson does, he can learn to throw that same kick with the same fluidity

all of those traits come from repetition

sure its a bit harder than boxing, but it's not impossible

a man at 30, training tkd for 20 years, could, at the age of 50 be as good as a guy who started when they were 5 and are now 25

aside from any injuries ofc

LOL ever heard of neuroplasticity? 5 year olds have a whole lot more of it

this basically explains it.

take GSP, world class fighter, looks like a moron throwing a side kick. looks so ridiculously unathletic, etc.

no matter how hard he ever works on this kick, he'll never do it as good as rogan, whose probably hardly practiced this kick over the last 20 years but still looks amazing when he throws it.

that balance and athleticism, IMO is formed big time when youre young.

gsp threw that kick hard as fuck his second try...

if he practiced that kick for 5-10 years he could do it as well as rogan threw it in this video

repetition is key, you don't train so you only assume

no, no he couldnt.

rogan is 40 something years old and hasnt seriously trained in probably 20 years and still throws it 100x better than GSP.

this is all i needed to hear from you to know you have no idea what youre talking about.

you have no clue what you're talking about,

kicks are learned through repetition, period

step in a gym and even someone like you could learn how to throw a proper kick, you being 16 already doesn't mean it's too late, no excuses, just jump in a gym

Kids tend to learn things easier though
my 3 year old niece when she was 2 could pick up the phone and call my mom or get on the tablet and get to a movie she wanted to watch when she could barely put together a sentence that usually made no sense because she was 2 whereas my mom who is 50 can't learn the simplest things of technology

Most kids in high school have a hard time learning a new language, but 3-4 year olds seem to learn it better and become fluent by teenager years whereas 16-26 year olds still at 26 aren't nearly as fluent as the 14-16 yo that started young

So I agree with the "easier" statement, but it's still very possible to learn at older age

You guys just seem to think its a memory function that is complex, martial arts moves are not complex nor hard to pick up, mastering technique is not all mental like you guys are assuming. If you don't train, please don't speculate. I've been doing this for 16 years.

I would bet a huge amount of money that Joe Rogan still throws kicks quite frequently. And also if Rogan and gsp had a kicking only fight gsp would still tear him up... Also didn't gsp do tkd as a kid? So that's a horrid example you gave...

.......... even rogan admits people cant learn kicking nearly as well after a certain age, wish i could find the video.

regardless im done with this. idk why i argue with people who have never taught people kicks lol, kids always pick these things up better and faster period.

the older the guy is, generally the harder it is for him to learn.

Who cares, Taekwon do kicks are very different then most kicks used in MMA today. The kicks you will learn that will be effective are very different then the flashy spinny kicks that other arts will teach you. I doubt most adults who never threw a kick in their life would become a "tricker" in any point in their life.

You can also find Joe Rogan saying how him being a black belt in Taewkondo is nothing compared to being a mixed martial artist. It's the reason he started training in BJJ, because he seen how inferior and how much time he has wasted in TKD

it helps having the speed and accuracy that comes with mastering the array of kicks TKD uses but most are no bueno.
