I dont take cain for that kind of guy hes pretty humble never knew of him as a big mouth, hasnt fought in forever, been riddled with injury, dont think he wouldve said it to try avoid humiliation, if his leg didnt give then cain was about to drive that gorillas into the canvas

Cain was rocked, his chin has always been questionable and with age and everything else he probably was done even if his knee didn't give out. Ngannou would've been standing over him dribbling his head off the canvas regardless of the knee. Unlikely Cain would've recovered but he definitely didn't fake the knee injury. He has always been injury prone and you can tell by the way he landed on it when he got rocked it looked brutal
