edit: also jiu jitsu is just modern day karate - really dumb shit to try in a real fight. if you take someone to the ground in a street fight... lol

nah, there's a video out there of bisping (google bisping jiu jitsu street fight) breaking it down pretty rationally - if you go to the ground in a street fight, whether or not you're on top/bottom: easy chance for someone in a steel toe boot to come around the corner and kick you in the face. best to not go to the ground UNLESS YOU KNOW FOR A FACT (kinda hard to judge this) no one else is gonna jump in

edit: also just simply google "does jiu jitsu work in a street fight" lol, you will be surprised

Obviously a gun will kill quicker than a submission. But in any 1v1 engagement ground fighting is an exceptional skill.

also exemplified by the tuf 5 house fight when dude went for a armbar and got his head slammed on the concrete

jiu jitsu is for mats and combat sports that have referees

I'm not gonna argue with you, everything has it's advantages and disadvantages. I think it is a very useful skill set.

MMA has always been a WWE circus lol. pride fixed a lot of matches/steroids/etc. UFC with brock

etc etc

MMA isnt cool lol and never really has been

the difference tho, is karate/kung fu back in the day had this mystique about it but was never tested in actual combat because it isnt effective unless the user REALLY knows what they're doing or combines it with another more efficient martial art. jiu jitsu on the other hand was proven to be effective.

as far as it being good or not in a street fight, its hard to say. im assuming ur referring to the vid bisping talks about jiu jitsu being bad in a fight. while i dont disagree, i dont know if its "bad" completely. I think its very situational honestly. Like if you KNOW for sure that its a 1v1, then i can see it working quite well especially against someone who has no ground game.

of course taking someone down would never be my first choice since i prefer to strike anyways. that being said, we can talk about if something is good or not in the street til ad nauseam but the best thing to do imo is to run honestly. or use a gun (in america at least).

thanks for concise reply, i really want to say i can admit it COULD be useful if you were taken down and had to fight off your back, but even then - upkick > jiu jitsu

i really dont see any way being on the ground in street fighting could be safe, nor would you want to prolong it/put yourself in an even worse position going for a submission defensively (proven by the tuf 5 house fight video i posted above) or ESPECIALLY offensively. too risky any way you look at it imo

yea i too would never purposely go to the ground either. its why i prefer something like judo over jiujitsu if i had to use a non striking art in a fight. rather throw/slam someone on concrete than go to the concrete with them lols.

im not sure if an upkick would even work well tho. of course in MMA when both people are trained, its a different story. i guess im thinking of a scenario where the average person who trains jiujitsu for self defense runs into an idiot drunk who fights at bars or something lmao or some moron on the street

but yea i remember seeing that TUF season too haha. when its 2 actual fighters, its deff dangerous to take the fight to the ground imo since no matts.. fk that.

i was thinking situations like these where someone trains a little jiujitsu purely for self defense :p

im sure everyone has seen this one lmao..

and this ones quite brutal.. guy takes other guy down and elbows him to death. ouch..
