The whole you have to convincingly beat the champ to be the champ isn't really a thing. This isn't baseball and the tie doesn't go to the runner. Whoever wins the round, wins it, and the judges don't just by default give it to the champion if it's close. JDM won the second round because he had a slight edge in strikes and his strikes were more impactful, JDM wins rounds 1,2, and 5 with round 3 being very close and could go either way.
