It's kind of insane. No, it's actually INSANE.

On one hand you have Northcutt, a greek god type of body chiseled out of stone.

On the other hand, you have Cody Pfister.....

How does that shit get sanctioned hahaha

Seriously how do you look like that at 6 feet tall and still only come in at 155? That's fucking nuts!

when you carry 7-10 lbs less fat than even other lean fighters, you can put it on in muscle, that's how.

Kid has gotta be like 3-4% BF. Simply impressive.

But his jaw has at least 10 extra lbs in it!

When you look like that isn't it harder to cut? Especially without ivs?

muscle is like 75% water and fat is like 10%. I'm no expert but i think him having the same overall weight as the other fighters but a way lower BF % would make it easier to cut?

well probably a bit, but regardless of how much body fat you have, given your weight you're still going to have roughly the same amount of water to lose as anyone else your weight.

Assuming of course most of these guys are primarily losing the weight via dehydration, which they are since they all come in at like 170 the very next day. At least we assume LW fighters fall in the 170lb weight area give or take 5 lbs fight night and the week leading up to the fight

There's also a significant loss one loses in solid waste which people often don't consider.

I'm a little light right now (161), but I float between 160-170 and when I'm really active I eat a lot (much like many of these fighters, they burn a lot of energy and need to replenish it) and so I can lose 5 lbs just by not eating solid food for a day but maintaining hydration.

Back last spring I was usually 168 or 169 first thing in the morning and as much as 172 or 173 after dinner at night. I could EASILY drop to 165 by evacuating everything I ate if I didn't replace it by the following evening. doing that also causes you to lose a little more weight by glycogen store depletion if you are working out, and the rest is water weight. It can nearly all be recovered within 24 hrs so it's not a big issue if done right.

Now, I wasn't as lean as Sage is, clearly, but I was still probably only 8 or 9%bf. I don't see how a change in BF really changes these things because none of them are body fat dependent.

Also, if I dieted even a little bit with no other change to my activity or energy my weight would drop down to 165 within a week or even less while maintaining most of my eating habits.

That's just me but anyone who knows how to weight cut realizes it's taxing on your body and mind (especially the water cutting) but it's not THAT bad. You run in to problems when fighters either don't know how to cut properly and try to simply lose it all in water weight, or are the kind of guys who balloon up when not in a fight camp and actually have to lose weight during camp to come in to fight week at a target weight but come in to fight week unprepared and try to make up for what they didn't lose during camp via water weight when it's beyond what their body can actually do.

Well, when you cut you don't starve yourself at any point. That is possibly the worst thing you can do. Water wise too you don't stop all water intake as well so i'm not sure what you tried to convey with half of your post.

Nah, you chew on icecold towels before the weigh-in to get your water in.
