Punk is on hiatus and most likely won't come back due to personal reasons.

Sting will not nor ever will be/join WWE especially at his age.

Uhh, Sting signed with WWE.

They were talking Sting vs Taker at next Wrestlemania, and if Taker is done (I think he finally is) Sting vs Rock

Sting has already signed with the WWE, he made his first WWE Network appearance on the Warrior memorial.
Punk left because his body couldn't handle the ring and he wasn't performing to his own standard, so I assume he won't be coming back, nor will he be doing MMA.

I thought it was more him not liking the direction the business was going.

They never really addressed it. Other than Hayman's mini pipe bomb they have said nothing about it

He's still listed on the roster, and selling his merchandise.

Yeah, we bought a CM Punk "plush" at RAW a couple weeks ago for my kid. ($25, fucking highway robbery)

I read an official statement somewhere that he wasn't pleased with his performance physically.
His contract wasn't set to expire for a while, so contractually speaking, WWE has the right to his likeness to make money while they still can.

They have the right to sue him for everything he owns  But even with that childish thing to do the WWE still wants to be on good terms with Punk in case he returns one day.

(inb4 people get mad because I called Punk childish) I mean yes, he's an incredible workhorse and fights through his pain and injuries but he could have asked for time off or a lighter schedule until his original contract was up.

I agree to an extent.
I think if it was something he seen progressing over time he should've mentioned it to the company.

Overall, the company, while giving good money, also has a tendency to not do what's in the best interest of the wrestlers at all times.

We're a big CM Punk household here, but I thoroughly agree he acted more closely to impulse.
