As an avid Aldo fan, I don't believe anyone ever said he was p4p #1. 3-6 ish depending on who you asked, imo.

Jones, Anderson, GSP, Fedor clearly were always in front.

At the time conor fought aldo he was widely considered the #1 p4p. People were arguing between him and Jones for a while but once Jones got suspended it was definitely aldo. Fedor wasn't even actively fighting at that point and gsp had already retired

Fair enough, I don't feel like he was ever really rated as the best, even though he deserved it.
