I think if one fighter obides by the contract and the other doesnt, he shouldnt be forced to fight a different fighter to get paid, especially if its going to nothing good for his/her career. Perhaps he doesnt deserve all of the money, but the ufc should at least pay for his training and expenses.
If a fighter does decide to face a different opponent, who isnt going to do anything for the fighters career, there should be incentives... A bonus or something extra.
I mean, we all know these guys dont make crap compared to what the company is making
I'm not arguing they make enough money or that the ufc would be hurt by it, but unless it's strictly written in the contract there is no other combat sport that pays someone for not fighting.
I 100% agree with your second statement. If he takes the fight he should get incentives. Maybe not as much pay if the UFC wants to argue that, but bonuses and guarantees if he were to lose and shit.
In my personal opinion I think every fighter on the roster should have a small base salary of pretty much what training costs. It would be a minimal cost to the ufc and would make it so fighters wouldn't have to make shit deals with coaches and training partners to give up large chunks of their fight pay. It would make it so fighters would be in fight shape more often I think too, which would lead to more ready replacements.
