Bjj is not only a sport. It is a martial art and it does have real world applications. Takedown leading up to knee on belly then transition to full mount. Then what the guy going to do unless trained for that situation? From full mount, you have many options such as armbar, arm triangle, ground and pound. And if you on the ground, then you sweep the guy, then have superior position. Bjj has to be adjusted for the street. You can't be an idiot, get closed guard, and let someone posture up and pummel your face. You have to clinch the guy, then sweep his ass or if you can, go for an armbar.

That's true
99% of what ppl train is the sport variant tho
many militaries train the few useful things JJ has to offer

In any case, it's useless vs an armed attacker, your best option is always to disengage
even vs someone unarmed who is willing to fight dirty it's just not very effective at ending the fight before your opponent can do real damage

It's very effective at ending the fight and most likely you won't take damage. Bjj is about control. If the opponent is under control, then it is extremely difficult for them to effectively retaliate. Obviously you need skill to do this. It's not practical for a guy to take a few classes and be ready for street combat. For good measure, you probably need to be a third stripe white belt or higher, and have your game adjusted for the street. A blue belt rank is pretty much overkill for untrained and unarmed dummies.

You can't be serious

Any legit bjj instructor will tell you to avoid fighting and always flee vs someone with a knife because they know even after training for decades you aren't likely to disarm anyone who doesn't have cerebral palsy

Anyone with savvy or cunning isn't going to show you their knife before actually using it on you

well yeah... obviously my post only applies vs unarmed opponents.

My former legit instructor said if you want to choke his ass out then do it. Best instructor ever. No sarcasm implied. At the end of the day, you make the choice. No instructor should be held responsible for an adult making their own decisions.

Yup. You said "My former legit instructor said if you want to choke his ass out then do it." So I thought he meant armed people like you were being critic at him

nah I was unintentionally ambiguous. I assumed that I didn't have to specify that it was in an unarmed situation. Otherwise I'd agree that my instructor is either insane or lacks capacity, which certainly is not the case.

I didn't say you couldn't win with a knife but you better pray you kill them immediately (I'm not sure what % of stab wounds are fatal but I'm assuming it's a very low number) cuz if they disarm you they could easily take your life lol. Anybody who thinks otherwise clearly hasn't rolled, if some average dude with no training got grabbed by a guy like werdum or jacare it would take a matter of seconds before bones are being broken or they're having the life strangled out of them.

I'm just saying I wouldn't take the chance even if I had a knife
