No, I'm not from California. This man's lively hood is based on people watching him fight. Him being accused of cheating hurts his reputation. Which in turn affects his income. This is a big deal to me but maybe no one else cares. We will see.
That is a correct definition of slander, but your understanding of how a slander case works is wrong.
The burden of proof for slander is on the plaintiff.
This means that Dan Hooker doesn't have to prove that Makhachev used an IV to rehydrate, Makhachev has to prove that he DIDN'T in order to successfully sue him, which is virtually impossible.
He also has to prove that the claims harmed him, which they won't and that Dan Hooker knew that the claims were false, which he almost certainly didn't.
None of the elements of a successful slander case are present. It doesn't matter how big of a deal this is to you or any of us, that's not how the law works.
