Due to this vote being held openly, pming people and asking them to vote for you has the potential of putting certain types of people on the spot, and making them feel obligated to give you their vote. The potential for this may be minimal, but nevertheless it does exist. Regular users of this forum (those who would be most likely to use a mediator in the first place) already know eachother well anyway, and would already know who they want to vote for.
Yeah, as others have mentioned, any person who would have to be made aware of this med selection process (we've been discussing it here for a long time now) probably won't be betting in this forum anyway, or at least their participation would be very minimal. It's the votes of the active users of this forum that count the most.
And again, just for the record, I think all the people on the list would make good meds
