i always went by if you turn your body or head way around its not the opps fault for a back hit. he was clearly turning his head all way around to avoid strikes.

Yeah, but he had his head turned from the start. It can also be argued that he was protecting his face because Alvarez had good position to get some clean hits in. Once he started hitting the back of his neck it was an obvious call.

It's just one of those weird situations. If Lapicus had not dropped and sold the hammer fist blows to the face they probably would have just given Alvarez a warning. But since he dropped down and was acting like he was seriously injured it was another Sterling situation lol.
