Leon’s amazing knockout and all the hype about it, has got me thinking. It probably is the best come from behind win in a UFC title fight. But Leon was on a 10-fight winning streak prior, sooo that’s about as legit as a title contender can be. He didn’t surprise Usman just was better.

I have two picks for most shocking UFC title fight’s that were bigger upsets to me.

Shogun/Jones

We were in the Machida era, Lyoto was considered basically untouchable. Then here comes Shogun, the first fight was a war. Shogun got robbed by the judges but he showed that he can solve the Machida puzzle, and did win that fight but w/e. So here comes the re-match, hyperbole can’t even do justice for the hype surrounding this one. Shogun goes and KTFO’s the champ in round 1, putting a stamp on that rivalry.

So we’re in the Shogun era now, and it’s gonna be a long time until anyone will dethrone him no doubt. Rashad Evans is his first opp, Shogun gonna run through Suga like nothing. Shortly before the fight Rashad pulls out, and they end up putting his teammate in for him in the fight with Shogun, this prospect with a 12-1 record. Biggest win, Ryan Bader? Fucking lol, Shogun will kill this scrawny tall kid.

A month later, Jon “Bones” Jones was born. Fucking made the Shogun tap to strikes. It was unbearable to watch, a beating from bell to (T)KO. Never was I more confident in the champion in a fight until…

Rockhold/Bisping

Luke just recently won the UFC Middleweight title in a grueling grudge match with Chris Weidman, via stopping him with strikes. The very same (prior) undefeated Chris Weidman who holds 2x victory’s over Anderson Silva, had defended his title against Lyoto Machida and stopped the most dangerous version of Vitor Belfort in one round.

Luke looked like he was physically the biggest guy at 185. The re-match with Weidman is scheduled, biggest middleweight title fight in UFC history. All know the story, Weidman gets injured is out of the fight. Gets replaced by Michael Bisping, who to his credit was on a three fight win streak, but is still Michael Bisping. And Rockhold had already finished Bisping in there first meeting by submission.

Just an absolute squash match till Weidman returns. And somehow Cuckhold goes and gets knocked out cold by left hook Larry.

The timing, the build up was all just to much. I honestly didn’t think Bisping could hurt Luke with punches let alone finish him.

That was my number one upset.

Honorable mention

Aldo/McGregor

Was rooting for Aldo more in that fight than any other fight before or since. But I was concerned pre-fight that if Conor could last past R3 he might be able to bully Jose late in the fight with better cardio, Conor’s cardio hadn’t really been tested yet, the Mendes fight but not really. Lol how wrong that was, hindsight.

Pena v Nunes 1 was a pretty major upset.

Fully agree with Rockhold/Bisping, but I remember when they announced Jones was gonna be fighting Shogun and thinking, ah Shoguns gonna be in trouble. Jones was annihilating people back then, and Shogun was impressive beating Machida but he also had a few lackluster fights prior to that.

I'm still going Weidman/Silva 1. I expected Silva to keep doing his Matrix shit and winning.

Matt serra was a ufc has-been

Makes a rocky story of winning the ultimate fighter and beating gsp via tko stoppage for ufc gold,

Nobody gave little Matt a chance

Mighty mouse winning the onefc belt again was pretty dope too

TBH this is really interesting forecasting the Usman vs. Edwards 3. DJ had never been knocked out previous to his loss to Moraes in their first bout, was 34 years old at the time. Came back and his chin looked awesome, won after getting KO'd by that nasty shot and knee. The greats always seem to redeem themselves. Usman 35 right now I believe and just suffered his first KO loss of his career. Badum.

Didn’t get to watch this live, wasn’t a fan of the sport at the time. But I’m sure it’s something you would never forget seeing happen.
