Is Herb dean washed up?


It just looks bad when he misses big time on 2 people getting choked out... and a lot of stoppages ive seen from him lately have been pretty bad/late.


I get it, he was a fighter, has been a ref for a long time, probably hears from fighters that they don't want early stoppage, probably the last thing he wants to do is make an early stoppage...


but damn dude I be watching on tv and im like, ok the fights probably over u can call it and herb kinda lets it go on for a bit.


He use to be one of the best but now … idk

Now there are so many events naturally increasing the chances of unfortunately "bad reffing", if i noticed anything its how important the angles the ref watching the action is. A lot of these situation happen because the ref is on the wrong side of a tap/ KD or even just a scrable. Cant blame them its impossible to predicted where the fight goes in many situations.

Also the refs getting so much hate on social media may influence them to make wrong decision whether its an early/ late stoppage.

Good points zNick. We also observe the same with ref in boxing. and the pressure can become super heavy on their shoulders. Remember the story of ref Mitch Halpern, the third man in the ring for Tyson vs Holyfield

it wasn't just this last card where he missed a clear tap,

it was some of the previous cards where people got headkicked and were clearly done and herb just lets them take like 3-4 more shots and then jumps in.



Social media might be a factor, but honestly I think there are probably fighters that talked to him after a fight or stoppage and said hey I was still in the fight /early stoppage, That would probably sway him more than social media...

Now hes just letting people take extra damage in there when they fight is clearly over at least from my view on tv.

Ref is there to protect fighters... if he cant do that anymore then he is washed up and should retire.
