so last weekend's ufc card featured two outstanding fighters who obviously have different takes on this: gsp back in the day owned his tapping to serra's strikes, making a case for it being a smart decision regarding his career's longevity (still didn't prevent the aliens from getting him), while joanna was apparently embarrassed and denied her obvious tap.
of course no one (except bob sapp maybe) who steps into the ring or octagon to fight is actually "soft" by any reasonable standards, but amongst quite a lot of fighters (and fans who believe they could be one) it's considered weak.

Fine line imo. Theres a guy in there whos job it is to protect you when youre done. Rely on him as much as possible to step in when youre getting your ass beat

If you're not going to win anymore it's fine.
Same as staying down in boxing or kickboxing while if you try your hardest you might still get back up - but what's the point.
Longevity of your career is much more important.

If you're done and the ref isn't jumping in to save you, then Obv tap. Its like not tapping to a joint submission, ur a fucking idiot if u don't. Getting choked out is fine. But nothing that can have long term effects, like broken bones and brain damage

Look at jds
Couple of cain beatings and now career is pretty much over
So tapping is smart if you're sure it's over
