It has to spawn when you are in the game. If the game crashes after that and you rejoin then you can find and kill. I have done it on occasions as it happened to my game too in the past

Yes. I was out at 4/6 and rejoin the same game at 1/6. So yes you should be there at 6/6 to get it.
Anyway it was not a big tragedy as it was only one chance from many dozens that succeeded.
