Depends on the items you buy. You can find some sweet deals if you pay attention.
I just made 35+ mil from crashing method. (items were bought at low and sold at mid)
Then I sold the items at mid in the GE on the other char. So very little gold was lost if any and lots of gold was gained on my main.

If you run out of merch'd items and need mass items at low PM me (The price difference from low - mid is very high on these items)

merching clans raise items to an unbelievable price.. then once there dozens of members have thousands of such items, they "dump" these items selling mass ammounts in the grand exchange for minimum price. I, the buyer, buys the items that are being "dumped" in the g/e for lowest price. I then trade a in-game person (the seller, aka YOU) for mid price in trade window, potentialy making millions at a time..
