If anyone read the books,

At the end of one of the last ones I read, there was a thing known as the 'Shield' that Kelly, Fred, Linda, the new Spartans, and Dr. Hasley are stuck in. I believe this to be the 'Shield' that the forerunners built to protect sentient life. Time will tell though.

Edit: only so many ways this game could go in my opinion but u never know with halo. Bungie always did things diffrent I assume 343 will be about the same off canon bullshit
