When it has a circle with a line through the circle beside there name, does it mean they dont have a mic?

Someone correct me if im wrong, its been a long time since i've played xbox

But, im pretty damn sure if they do not have a mic then no symbol at all shows up, but if they have a mic in but its muted thats when it shows the symbol you're talking about

it doesnt give me the option to unmute though?

Because they have their mic muted and/or you muted, you do not have control over that

Also some people have their account privacy settings to only allow users on their friends list to hear them, that may be what you are experiencing

The circle with the line going through it means that they are muted. If there is nothing beside there name then they do not have their mic plugged in.

it means that they have muted the mic themselves, OR you muted them.

also, i think if their voice chat has been suspended by microsoft, it shows up as well

if it's like that when you first start a game, i was always under the impression that bungie muted them for you because microsoft recorded a high percentage of people muting them. i've been playing arena lately and so have manually unmuted them everytime since communication is critical
