I didn't know you were adressing cheaters when you asked your original question  You just said "the ranking system." There were obviously a ton of cheaters in H2. And getting to a high level(Legitimately) did take much more effort/skill in H2 than it did in H3 because you leveled much slower.

Also, I'm not sure how you could introduce a ranking system that isn't "based on bullshit," so much so that people will stop cheating. As long as cheating is easy to do(As it is now), and there is incentive(A 1-50 ranking system, for instance), you will have a lot of cheaters. You can have two ranking systems: One based on individual effort(The current arena format), and one based on winning(H2/H3). The former decreases emphasis on teamwork and makes the game unenjoyable. The latter is a much better experience, but in Halo's case, it also brings out many cheaters/exploiters. There's no feasible way to have both a classic ranking system and to have no cheaters, unless 343(Or Bungie or whomever is working on the project now) fixes the cheating from a networking point of view. I never understood how cheating is so easy to do in Halo. Is it just because the games are hosted locally?

this is pretty much why halo reach needs the 1-50 rnaking system back

yes there will be some derankers and cheaters, but to me and alot of other people, its worth it

and that feeling of competitiveness because of our precious rank is why it makes the ranking system enjoyable to have

well yeah, i guess it only applies to casual players because the pro players wont find it a challenge to get a 50... but you already said it, casual players is pretty much everyone... even most legit level 50s in halo 3 were casual players...im a 50 in team slayer in halo 3, and the challenge of getting it made the multiplayer experience a lot better

okay so there were cheaters in mlg and squad battle... in the other game types it was mainly just boosters
as for the boosters, who cares.... its not like they are unbeatable... people can still win... its just another challenge you have to face when trying to get a 50

as for that last comment... that had no relevance to anything i said so... no comment?

Unless you were playing completely inept opponents, you aren't going to win with a deranker on your team.

Yes it did... You said that nobody should care about getting an illegitimate 50 because they know they didn't earn it, but this reasoning didn't stop thousands of people from cheating, boosting, buying accounts etc. in Halo 3.

You mean the cheaters and exploiters? If you want a competitive game, play customs. There are plenty of forums with which you can easily organize customs. Customs have always been, and will always be, the best way to have fun.

yah derankers were annoying, but atleast half the time they were on the other team
and personally in team slayer on my way to 50, i dont think a got matched up with any derankers or cheaters... thats prolly because its team slayer though

well yah your right, but they still dont get that satisfaction of getting a legit 50

no the fact that it puts more emphasis on team work and makes it more enjoyable is what im agreeing with u with. as for the custom games, u dont gain anything from winning like ranking up, so its not the same... but i do agree that customs will always be fun, not nearly as fun as halo 2 tho

Them being on the other team is just as bad as them being on your team. I'd personally rather have the deranker on my team, unless he's going to be shooting me in the back the entire time.

Who cares about "ranking up"? You're playing a FPS, not a fucking mmorpg. You play FPS's for the fun of the actual game, not to grind and level up.

mostly everyone cared about ranking up
the 1-50 rnaking system isnt like mmorpgs, if anything the current system where u gain exp to reach an inheritor is more like an mmorpg

yes people do play fps for the fun of the actual game, it jus so happens that the rankings makes it even more enjoyable
for the casual player, it sucks that u have no goal to achieve in multiplayer
it keeps casual players playing for longer as well

lol at u trying to make up reasons to why someone shud like a game... thats jsut ur oppinion that only applies to you... there are other reasons to what makes a game fun that arent part of the actual in-game

Nobody with half a brain gave a shit about ranking up. The only people that really cared about ranking up were terrible at the game.

It's just like a mmorpg; it entices people into playing a long time to achieve a specific rank.

Yes, it does keep casual people playing the game, but not necessarily because it's a good component. Most people that I came across that cared about ranking up got waaaay too into the game and were incredibly angry most of the time. Once you add a ranking system, it becomes an addiction to try and rank up, just like in mmorpg's.

I'm not "making up reasons," they're completely legitimate. You can like any game you want to, but someone liking a game does not make it a good game. If a ranking system is implemented, the average online population will likely go up, but, in my opinion, the game will suffer greatly in a gameplay aspect. More cheaters, derankers, "ragers," etc. etc.

first comment is ur oppinion, but there is no doubt that most people did care about their rank

well, the only mmo rpg ive played was guild wars and ranking up wasnt addicting at all
if anything the only addicting aspect to an rpg game would be to make ur character stronger, meaning it doesnt necessarilly have to be leveling up that ur addicted too
and u dont lose levels in mmo rpgs so thats why i dont consider halo 3s rnaking system like an mmo rpg

if it gets people playing, its a good component... if people cant control themselves with anger and addiction then they have a problem

as for the last comment, i agree, but the cheaters will sitll likely deal with the concequeces hopefully, and maybe bungie can somehow do something about the derankers as well
there were 100x less cheaters in halo 3 then there was in halo 2... in halo 2 u couldnt get passed level 34 in team slayer without getting cheaters
in halo 3 u can actually get 50s in a lot of playlists without facing any cheaters

overall, the rnaking system makes the game more enjoyable (for me) even with derankers and cheaters which is why i want this system

It doesn't make it any more competitive at all, it just feels more competitive because your precious rank is on the line.

So then what makes something competitive? When it doesn't feel more competitive?

Difficulty of the game, balance, etc. all come into play when dubbing something "competitive." The adrenaline you feel because you may lose/gain a 50 in matchmade Halo 3 did not mean it's a competitive game.
