Depends on the size of his house. If you get too much, you can always use it for other projects later. And you definitely want some slack in the line.

We're not talking about a straight line; this is going to be a very roundabout route. 30 feet wouldn't even cut it if he was right in the next room over from the router.

houses now should just be built with the shit wired in the wall, electricians should be trained to run rj45, honestly most of shit nowdays can connect to the internet anyway
