Agreed aside from the halo 3 part. Halo 3 was extremely competitive and worth playing once they fixed and created an MLG scene I guess you could call it. Once 4 does, it will be competitive but no where near h2 or h3 IMO. Reach ruined a lot of peoples views on halo. Cod kids who think they are good at h4 because they play infinity slayer are my favorite.
To disagree that the Halo 3's BR was crap compared to the Halo 2's BR? I don't know... the BR in H2; if you hit the head or chest at a distance; it registered. It was like as if it was "un-lagged" as myself and other Quake 3:Arena players would call it. Halo 3; you had to lead your shots across long-distances, which is fine (and more realistic; we just had to adjust), but for MLG purposes; it slowed the gameplay down; much like Halo: Reach did, just not as much but enough to want the Halo 2 BR back.
I come from a long background of FPS games; well before Halo was introduced mostly from playing Quake and Doom, and I suppose even Unreal (though that was well after Quake/Doom), but I've always liked a more fast gameplay as opposed to Reach's gameplay. Map control, power up control, and team work are more important and Reach failed there, but Halo 4 has brought some of that back; though I haven't seen any of it due to not having anyone to play with. That's why Reach ruined it for the more competitive player.
Reach just; sucked. Bloom was crap, losing the old leveling system was a terrible idea (which took away from competitive gameplay), and some of the maps were just complete and utter garbage.
I don't know... I feel as though I haven't given Halo 4 an honest chance; hence I am here.
