Halo 3 had terrible hit detection and a horrible BR spread. These are legitimate reasons, not "personal preference" by any means. Even on LAN you could regularly get blood shots, and the BR spread made long-range BR fights a coin flip. Even from top A to top B on Onslaught there's a huge spread.

Ok I won't deny the "bloodshots". That stuff wasn't intended, though.

The key to far range br shots (and, well, battle rifle duels at really long range is kind of stupid on both sides...it's a mid-ranged weapon with one scope for a reason, folks) is to continuously be scoped in, always clicking the scope button after getting hit.

And a rationale to the spreading at such long range is to help with weapon balance. It's a truly more accurate game than Halo 2 and its predecessor. You don't want a battle rifle to be the "everything weapon". A truly skilled gamer would know when and where to use other weapons for specific purposes, as well as how to maximize the potency of the weapon. By using the Battle Rifle at double-scoped Sniper Rifle range, you're using the battle rifle extremely poorly and not utilizing the map and its resources (weapons, grenades, boosts, etc) to your full potential and benefit.

P.S

I can show you a thread that deals a lot about the "skill" that's present in the Halo series if you want; i'll link it if you ask.

You want the BR(Or DMR or whatever) to be an "everything weapon" in competitive play. H2 and CE were highly competitive games because of the very balanced weapons. There was no luck determining whether or not your shots hit(Hit detection/spread in H3, bloom in pre-update Reach), even if the weapons were a bit more accurate. Halo 2 had a massive amount of auto-aim, making it an easier weapon to use by default, but it was still very balanced.

I don't need any thread dealing with any "skill" that Reach(Or any Halo game for that matter) requires, that's an incredibly pointless thread. Anyone who has played any of the games more than a couple of times can figure out the key talents needed to do well.

Erm...weapon balance doesn't mean this:

Battle Rifle (or CE pistol) > all other weapons

Weapon Balance:

Battle Rifle = Rocket Launcher = Sniper Rifle = shotgun = etc

There's a reason why The battle rifle is the "average stats" weapon. There's a reason why the rocket launcher only has two shots per load with very slow projectile speed and firing rate. There's a reason why there's only 4 shots per magazine in a sniper and there's a reason why the there's a second interval between each next shot. There's a reason why the shotgun's range is extremely limited.

The intentions of weapon balance isn't to promote what MLG is (or at least was with Halo 2 and 3).

Perhaps you should rethink your post. Having balanced weapons doesn't mean that the BR is just as good as the rockets rofl. It just means that the weapons are proportionally strong. The rockets in H3 were perfectly balanced imo; they were always a priority, but having them didn't absolutely guarantee a successful push or anything. The rockets in H2/Reach are much too powerful, and they are always the absolute #1 priority regardless of the situation. Reach rockets aren't balanced because of this fact.

Your analysis of the weapons is pointless and I'm not sure why you bothered typing it.

I don't even know what your bolded sentence means.

The H2 BR was very balanced because it was always fair. There wasn't registration bullshit or spreads or bloom etc., it all came down to who had the better shot/positioning.

Not even close on weapon balance comparison. Weapon balance means that each weapon is effective at its ideal situation.

how can you say br=shotgun in any circumstances?

As in, each weapon has the same amount of strengths as it does weaknesses.

"Good for this, bad for that."

In terms of the effectiveness of each weapon, they are the same. Every item is situational and can lose to each other depending on when/where/how it is used.

No. H2 br wins came from who could double shot faster without messing up.
