http://www.hp.com/united-states/campaigns/envy/envy17.htmlThe recommended customization gives you @ 1800.
1 TB Harddrive, 2 TB for +180
8 GB DDR3 (Much more than you probably need).
2nd Generation i7 @ 2.0gHz
3-year warranty
Blu-Ray / DVD burner @ 100, you can go to regular and drop 100 into your wallet.
No Microsoft Office, it's about 80 for one that can be bought along with this laptop.
Don't know what your prices are. Read the reviews for you and problem this laptop has is overheating. Not uncommon anyways for a laptop.
If need cheaper, then be cool for prices.
What you "probably" want for lower prices.
Less harddrive, 750 GB I think is lowest, 6 GB DDR, Warranty(?) if you know how to protect your laptop, and most likely the Blu-Ray crap. You could get away with an i5 too.
All of these actually would probably leave you at regular price which is like 1300 and maybe 1400-1500 for Microsoft etcetc.
AND I think they have student discounts, I am not entirely sure.
