So i probably should have search-barred this (i hope this hasn't been made before).

I was thinking the other day that we all debate about headsets usually concerning sound quality almost never about microphone quality. This got me thinking. The "Beats" studio addition have a microphone that hangs a couple inches below one of the ears. The "Beats" have been advertised as one of the best stereo headphones you can buy under $500. Other ads claim that you can hear things in songs that you won't hear with "any other pair of headphones".

So my question is if these are so good, why don't i see people using them outside of music, for example competitive gaming?

So i want some feedback on a few things.

1. If you own a pair how good is the sound quality?
2. Have you ever used them in combination with a mixamp of some sort?
and 3. How do they compare to other headsets you've used?

My friend had the beats. Yes the sound pretty damn good. Yes try work with the astro mixamp. The iPhone mic that comes with the headset works flawlessly with the mixamp other tuan it's hard for others to hear yu at times. I think that the astros are comparable in sound quality but the beats hav noise canceling. Hope that helps.
Headsets I've used
beats would be #1 other than no mic boom. But onlineic is weak but will work so sound quality
Overall sound quality
beats> astros>x4, tb hpx
for gaming
astros>beats> tb hpx,x4
just imo
pm of u haz moar ?'s

Sound clarity / quality wise, those sound great (for music)

BUT, they are not surround sound, they just have a single diver in each ear

They sound great for rock & hip hop and any music really

But for gaming you want surround sound so you get have directional awareness, rather then just stereo sound with just left and right

Edit: also if you want something that sounds better then your A40's, then keep your astro mixamp and get some HPX

I own Astro's and my HPX blow the A40's out of the water, my A40's just sit on my desk and i never use them anymore, the astro mixamp is amazing but the A40's arent very good sound quality wise tbh

That's not entirely true. The astro mixamp takes Dolby digital 5.1 and turn it into Dolby headphone which is virtual surround meant to work with only two drivers. The astro headse only has two drivers aswell. It basically doe this with a little change in frequency from the surround tracks. I think not completely sure how it works but it sounds like you have 5 dedicated speakers by just using the mixamp. Ice watched movies with it and my blu Ray an I have to say I love it
e: I hve tb hpx too and they only use 2 speakers total when used with the mixamp
