Don't yield. I honestly know almost nothing about the Crusades. I'm surprised Jonathon hasn't chimed in with his conspiracy theories yet.

I know very little about the Crusades; you're engrossed in religious studies daily. That's the only reason I yield to you; because I wasn't very confident on the Crusades to begin with and you're a Bible-thumper (although that could also mean your opinions are biased).

I've been waiting for someone to come in with some conspiracy theories as well lol.

I was going to address that in my previous post. The Church has done many controversial and wrong things with the wrong "justification" of the Bible. I read in a book yesterday, actually, for one of my classes, "since in addition to much good done in the name of God, much abuse has also taken place in that same sacred name. This is because no greater source of justification for one's cause can be evoked than that of "God."

So, I'll be first in line to admit that not all actions on behalf of the Church are right. The Church is just as fallen as anything else. I just don't know enough about the Crusades to start casting judgment.

Maybe you should research for me instead of sitting on your butt all day, Justin.

fuck being on topic...

Muslims like to build monuments on their greatest victories... fuck that... if they do and obama approves i say we impeach him. its ok for them to burn the U.S. flag kill, kill civilians supplying aid/medical aid because they have Bibles in the local muslim language, kill their own people with suicide bombs... but as soon as we do something wrong it is so wrong that we did this. fuck that... everything white people do is racist tho... so yea fuck it.

Yes because every Muslim is a terrorist and every terrorist is a Muslim.

Abandoning our First Amendment rights and preventing the free exercise of religion is precisely what the extremists would do if they had the opportunity. They would require adherence to Islam, rather than prohibit it, but it would still be an abolition of religious freedom either way.

The Free Exercise clause is the complete opposite of what the extremists want. If we abandon it because we are afraid of them, then they have succeeded.

A much more effective solution to the problem is to encourage religious freedom (even for people whose religion we don't like) and support the moderate clerics, rather than antagonize them. That gives the moderates the option of following their beliefs without trying to force them on others. If we cut off that option, they've got nowhere to turn to other than the extremists, and that would be bad for the US.

I do know that the Crusades was a response to Muslims forcibly spreading their religion through violence, so I'm not sure if calling it genocide instead of war is accurate.

its in the koran

KORAN commands to kill infidels:

Allah is an enemy to unbelievers. - Sura 2:98

On unbelievers is the curse of Allah. - Sura 2:161

Slay them wherever ye find them and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. - 2:191

Fight against them until idolatry is no more and Allah's religion reigns supreme. (different translation: ) Fight them until there is no persecution and the religion is God's entirely. - Sura 2:193 and 8:39

Fighting is obligatory for you, much as you dislike it. - 2:216
(different translation: ) Prescribed for you is fighting, though it is hateful to you.

..... martyrs.... Enter heaven - Surah 3:140-43

quoted from a website,http://www.wvinter.net/~haught/Koran.html
im pretty sure its just quotes from the koran.
my point is: the muslims in the middle east basically justify killing others because they are not of their religion.
this is the basis for a lot of fighting over their, its obv a lot more in depth than that but thats like an abbreviated nutshell

This is what your link says:

Slay them wherever ye find them and drive them out of the places whence they drove you out, for persecution is worse than slaughter. - 2:191

The CORRECT translation is:
[2:191] You may kill those who wage war against you, and you may evict them whence they evicted you. Oppression is worse than murder.

--and it continues :
Do not fight them at the Sacred Masjid, unless they attack you therein. If they attack you, you may kill them. This is the just retribution for those disbelievers.

So unless you yourself are well-versed in Arabic , dont bother

its controversial, those who kill use that excuse that it does condone killing. thats what im saying. I've watched a bunch of shows read a bunch of articles on it.
read this as well http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,995072,00.html

It's all out of context; if I were to browse through the Bible I'm sure I could find many similar quotes.
- In combination with the above, the Koran (much like the Bible) is already a translation from an older language to a more modern language and your example above has been further translated to English. The thing with translation is that it's not a one-on-one conversion; different languages have very different meanings to the words, and this is especially true for languages that arose in very different parts of the world. In other words, it's extremely open to interpretation; one person might find an entirely different meaning in a phrase than the next. It is very possible that many of the times the word 'fight' is used, you could just as well translate it to 'argue'.
