Anyone know how the FFA arena is actually rated? I assumed it should be just kills since that should be all that matters but clearly it's not...

It is based off of your rating in game which factors in assists, kills and deaths

so they count assists as points too now? that just doesn't make sense - in team arena assists are actually helpful.... you helped your teammate get a kill, whereas in FFA, you fucked up and got your kill stolen

I agree it's stupid but Bungie doesn't care about that.

My friend reported going 25-5~ with like 9+ assists a game and only dropping like a 1450 or so too, so I have no idea what the onyx requirement will be.
