Yes you can pick it up without playing Starcraft 1. The only problem is that if you are inexperienced with RTS game, then you might need more spare time to pick up those habits/mentality that goes through your head when playing.
I played starcraft 1 for a long time, it was nothing of serious of any sort until my brother went pro. Then I was urged to get good and so it took me about 2-3 months to get it all down and really put it together. Other than that, the game is just about what goes on in your head, all about assumptions.

What I wanna know is why they took out vultures and goliaths from multiplayer. Completely fucked up my terran gameplay
