Hey all, I played this game like right when it came out and i have a WHM with like the best gear u could back with the first patch. I quit playing because I noticed there is absolutely no customization or building of characters at all. The only point to level another class was to get some special skills to enhance your main. Is the game still this way or have some of the newer patches and expansions made the game more custom?

Basically I'm asking if everyone is the same build and uses the same skills? Like a tank would run in and use some aoe attack and something else, dps basically used 1-3 moves, same with healers. There was really no rotation or customization, the gear was all the same for everyone, ect....
Thought about checking it out again, but I don't know much and the videos I've seem are kinda meh.

The game felt really simple and basically each fight was a "retard check" (move out of red aoe symbol, gg)

To put it simply, yes. Nothing changed.

Why? Because it's an MMO.

It's literally the same for every MMO. Maybe MMOs aren't your style of play.

if you played this game during 1.0 or ARR then you'll realize just how much things have changed for the better. (especially if you played in the laughing stock that was 1.0)
all the new jobs and job skills make them much more fun and interesting to play. (i recommend playing the new healer Astrologian if you like to play WHM)
you've got savage tier raids and extreme trials that are more difficult than any other game, some of top tier endgame raids that take months of progression even for top tier raid groups.

FFXIV is actually the most played MMORPG now, and for good reason. it has the best PVE content of any mmo. its gonna boom even more as the new Expansion Shadowbringers is coming out in 2 months.

Very cool, this is a little more of what I was looking for. Would it be worth continuing on my current WHM or just start over at this point? I might wait around til the expac comes out and really see whats good with it. Maybe I'll get back into it again or at least try it for a month or so again.

Keep going on whm, you may not even get caught up on everything before the expansion comes out if you wait tbh. and if you do, then you should really try out some of the new jobs

Coming from my point of view from an ex multi glad WoW player (Ex as in I just quit last week) and raiding top 50US guilds. I can say I enjoy FFXIV so much and half of the dungeons I've encountered have more mechanics than some current raids in WoW. I went balls deep and bought all xpacs and pre ordered Shadows. I would say stick with your current character and take advantage of the fact that you can have multiple jobs (No need for alts as you already know) Re sub and give her a go. Whats the worst that happens? You lose out on 14.99? Im sure youve spent more on way worse

edit: My top 50us guild quit to come to FFXIV for this xpac. The content is there and so is the lore.

Good shit man. Funny you mention WoW, I'm currently playing Classic on K3 atm. I've been look back into FF because I need more to do Thought about getting back on it, it sounds promising based on what I've seen here so far. I'll probably give it a shot and see what its all about now. I'll probably be confused on what the hell to do at my current point, as I haven't been on in so long. Might be fun thought, prob total chaos until I figure out shit again though. Sometimes starting fresh helps bring back the old mechanics i forgot.
