What would you use Gil for in FF14?

I'm currently 32 and I keep seeing people sell gold here... So I want to know what I am missing out on haha

isn't there an Auction house or something in this game?

the same thing you would use gold for in any game. armor/weapons, housing/furniture, minions materia for melding, materal for crafting, potions and buffs for crafting/gathering.
fancy glamering items (clothing)

Thought armor/wep is earned through dungeons?

you can, before expansion you could have crafted items melded with materia that was better then end game dungeon item drops.
i assume they will have better items released in future patches that will be better when melded again.
plus there are weapon skins that can only be gotten from boss drop items that are crafted into weapons. (which can be put on the marketboard and sold)
crafting and gathering armors are bought or crafted.

When you get high enough for materia and demi-materia, gil will let you get them without doing it yourself. Also lets you level you crafting skills much faster. Basically it saves you time

Okay so you think buying 40,000 fg worth of Gil can gear up my dragoon near or at end game?

not right now, they haven't released any new crafting updates yet for the new expansion.
right now you can get the best gear from raids.

So wait until craftables?
