Hey shadowxr,
As for items: Once you get to level 50, the game followers a vertical progression, which is to say that all lvl 50 items are no longer equal and an item's item level is the primary thing to take into account of its power. You are correct that there are not 50 different lvl 50 sword, however, there are different tiers of gear. During the course of the game you will get tomestones that will let you get item level (il) 100 and 120 gear. Beyond those two, there are PvP weapons of varying I levels, there are drops in raids and trials (shiva/binding coil). In the end, weapons don't have as much of a gear choice as armor/accessories. With that said on weapons, there are many ways to customize the look by using glamour stones of varying other rare/crafted cosmetics. There's also a relic quest that has currently 5 VERY long quests, think of it like an epic, where you will grow your weapon and choose the stats you want on it over time. If you're not overwhelmed yet, the armor/accessories follow a same pattern with upgrades coming in tiers, depending on the content you're doing, but they are a bit more tricky because depending on your class you may value certain secondary stats more then others, such as a scholar would want gear high in critical hit rating first, followed by determination, and avoid gear high in accuracy/skillspeed. This item selection will have you switching around and using gear from all over, possibly even crafted to focus on the stats your class needs. I wont even touch on material for crafted accessories right now, but the gear situation is by no means bland or dull.
You mention only having 10 skills. In this game, your base class is really only useful until lvl 30, in which case you will unlock your job which has additional skills at your disposal. Beyond that, each job has 2 sub classes that they can draw certain skills from, another example is scholar which draws skills from the conjurer and thamateurge. Both of these classes offer extremely useful skills to the scholar such as swiftcast, surecast, stoneskin, protect. You see how the skill system eventually evolves. I have about 40-45 buttons that I actively use on my hotbar for each class, you will not be short on buttons, trust me.
Pretty much, the game is very easy to learn, its made for casuals, but the hardest of content really forces you to push your character and abilities to the limit. Binding coil final turn has still only been beaten by a handful of free companies, and for good measure.
TLDR; Game has very good gear choice endgame outside of weapons, you will have no shortage of abilities to use, and the game is easy to learn, hard to master. Take care!
