Just picked this game up from a local game store after contemplating for a while and about to try it out for the first time!

Any tips for a newbie?

Play the game however you want, as long as you enjoy it.

Probably the best tip that can be given to you.

Also, you make about 350k from leveling 1-50 and doing most of the quests along the way.

As of right now, this is all the gil you get unless you make trades, so don't blow it all in one place. There is no late game gil generation at this time, but there will be "soon."

Do all your main story quests! Following this chain at the beginning will unlock a ton of stuff for you like a grand company, chocobos, AH, and dungeons.

Also buy Orange Juice and Lentils & Chestnuts from the first food vendor you see as you'll need them for quests down the road (i think at like 15 and 30ish?)

There are PLENTY of late-game gil generation methods... I don't understand all of the people complaining about this. Yes, teleportation and repair bills are a sink, but:

a ) Pick up crafting
b ) Create materia from your items/equipment
c ) Run FATEs, grab weapons, create materia for Relic Weapons

Are people really that blind?...

You mistake gil generation for trading gil sinks that actually do the opposite of gil generation.

You also failed to read the "unless you make trades" part of my post.

I would also be really surprised if anyone had more gil than I do atm (that didn't pay for it) on jsp.
