They made a FFXIV, it was so terrible they fired a bunch of people in charge of making it, patched it up a year ago and made it semi-playable, and then proceeded to shut it down and now it's being re-released as "FFXIV: A Realm Reborn"

Looks like they are doing a good job so far tho, obviously you can't please everyone but it seems really close to being like wow but with huge final fantasy fanservice.

i love final fantasy lore, pretty excited :D i always really wanted to play XI but I had friends who played it and they said end game was essentially watching people do a huge boss for 24 hours and then a huge pvp fight when its about to die for loot

That could not be further from the truth lol

Huge PvP fight = not ffxi

Average boss fight, 5-10 mins

This. I remember when a guild got to, iirc, one of the hardest bosses in sea. They fought him for 18 hours.

What boss fight took 10 hours in 2004-2006?

All kings had a 1hour Rage timer. KA/Sim/Roc were 20 minute rage timers.

Nothing took 10 hours to kill, with the exception of a long ass Vrtra fight if nobody brought summoners, but I never once heard of a 10 hour fight. Even tiamat only took a little over an hour. When A/V was originally released you could zerg, but this was fixed in mid/late 2006, so I guess you have 1 fight in the game that had the abililty to go 10+hours. There was no PW during those times, so I'm not quite sure what you are talking about.

This is absolute virtue, released in 2006. He was impossible to kill after he was buffed to resist souleater (so that you couldn't zerg). LS's would spend 24 hours trying to kill just to wipe. Same thing goes for Pandemonium Warden for the ZNM line.

2 fights in the entire game having the ability to go 12+ hours hardly dictate every fight taking that long. Not to mention, only the most elite of FFXI linkshells even attempted those fights before 2009.
